My mother was adopted at 6 weeks old by a loving couple from the Holmen area. She didn't know she was adopted until her first day of school, when other children bullied her about it. She must have been so hurt.

I grew up with nine brothers and sisters and from the time I was a little girl I can remember my mother spending time with us. She would read to us as we sat around her on the sofa. (Even if it was a chapter from a paperback Western book.) As we grew older, on rainy days she would get out puzzles or a board game. Sometimes she would challenge us to a game of “jacks.” On summer days you would find us outdoors playing in a teepee that mother made for us; or on a tire swing taking turns spinning each other around and around. At family gatherings, the kids would get together and start a softball game. The grownups would join in and my mother would slam a softball to the outfield as good as any pro ball player.

My mom has always been here for me through the good times and bad. She always has a positive attitude and it makes me have one when I’m around her. She always listens to everything I have to say no matter what it is. I used to treat her bad and now we are hardly ever apart except when I’m at school. I love my mom to death and some days I wonder how she makes it through the day when she has to deal with me. She always wants what is best for me and she always helps me when I screw up. She is the greatest mom ever. I talk to her about everything and she doesn’t care what it is, she just wants to know what is going on in my life. My mom and I are so close, we are getting matching tattoos. I’ve done some bad things and she was always there telling me, “Hey, you should of seen the stuff I did!
