Carol J. Miller
Carol J. Miller, 72 of La Crosse passed away at her home on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008.
She was born in La Crosse on March 6, 1936, to Chester I. and Lilah A. (Reichert) Johnson and graduated from Central High School in 1954. On Feb. 25, 1955, she married Roy B. Miller and they later divorced. Carol had worked at La Crosse Trane Co. as well as other jobs in between. She then worked in the minority affairs department at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for 17 years and retired in 1999.
Carol enjoyed visits from her great-grandchildren and everyone wanted to be invited over to her house when she made her famous spaghetti and meatballs. She loved to watch the Packers, especially Brett Favre, and enjoyed gambling and tipping a few at the local pub. Carol was especially fond of her cat, Muffin.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Renee (George) Kochagian of Genoa; her sons, Ronald “Bali” (Debra) Miller and Richard “Rico” (fianceé Miyoko McKim) Miller, both of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Sara (Lance) Berger of Bangor, Melissa Kochagian of La Crosse, Nick Kochagian of Genoa and Allyssa Miller and Misty Miller, both of Holmen; two great-grandchildren, Skyler and Dayton; a half brother, Robert Valentine of La Crosse; her stepmother, Mildred Johnson of La Crosse; her stepsister, Marion Johnson of La Crosse; along with three aunts, Beverly, Louise and Margaret; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Randall and Thomas.
A graveside committal service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse. Friends and family may call at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until departing for the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Yer Yang, 88, of Wheatland, Calif., died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Rideout Hospital in Marysville, Calif. Joseph W. Clark
Joseph W. Clark, 48, of La Crosse died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse, with his family at his side.
He was born in La Crosse on Nov. 5, 1960, to John J. and Mary L. (Mekvold) Clark. He attended St. Pius X Grade School, then Aquinas High School for two years and graduated from Central High School, class of 1979, where he participated in football and wrestling. After he worked in Gillette, Wyo., for Daniels Const-ruction, he then joined the U.S. Army in 1980 and became a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1981, and retried from the U.S. Army at that time. He resided in Hillview Health Care Center for 18 years. He enjoyed sports and was an ardent “Packer Backer.”
He is survived by his parents, John J. and Mary L. Clark of La Crosse; one sister, Peggy Clark of La Crosse; his twin brother, Jim of Minneapolis; brother, Bill of Los Angeles; and one niece, Kasey Clark of La Crosse. He is further survived by his aunt and uncle, Ray and Mary Ann Engh of Edina, Minn.; and cousins, Michelle (Jim) Schedin, Kathy (Ted) Davis, David (Mari) Engh, and Mike (Kelly) Engh and their children.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Marie Mekvold; and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Margaret Clark.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in Mary, Mother of the Church Parish at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2006 Weston, St., La Crosse. The Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate with burial to be held in the Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home, 1501 West Ave. S., La Crosse, with a Scripture service to be held at 6:30 p.m. Friends and family may also call from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass in the church on Thursday.
Memorials are preferred to Hillview Health Care Center or Mary, Mother of the Church Parish.

Sister Rose (Rosannita) Menke, FSPA
Sister Rose Menke, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 79, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse.
Sister Rose was born on Sept. 24, 1929, to Aloysius and Rose Mary (Dingman) Menke in West Point, Iowa. She entered St. Rose Convent in 1945 and made profession of vows in 1949.
Having earned degrees in music education at Viterbo College and University of Colorado-Boulder, Sister Rose ministered for 48 years in schools in Iowa and Wisconsin, including six years in Carroll, Iowa, and 29 years in West Point, Iowa. She also cared for her mother during part of that time. In 2000 Sister Rose retired at West Point and in 2007 moved to St. Rose Convent in La Crosse. She had been residing at the Villa since September.
Sister Rose is survived by her Franciscan community; two brothers, Ralph (Lucille) Menke of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Clarence Menke of Carroll, Iowa; a sister, Imelda (Louis) Eckermann of Oxford, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Menke of Tacoma, Wash.; and nieces and nephews.
Her parents; two brothers, Linus and Richard; and two sisters, Margaret and Mary Louise, preceded her in death.
Friends may call after 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, when the body will be met at St. Rose Convent. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Rev. Tom O’Neill, chaplain at Viterbo University, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse.

Joan G. Winkler, 66, of La Crosse died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, in her home.
She was born on May 30, 1942, in Pittsburgh to Jerome G. Sr. and Dorothy (Montie) Bubb. Joan graduated from Oconto Falls (Wis.) High School. She married Peter Winkler on June 1, 1968, at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls. Jean was a full time homemaker for many years. She enjoyed gardening and took special pride in her flower gardens. She also enjoyed sewing and painting.
She is survived by her husband, Pete; five daughters, Sheilah (David) Hougom of Onalaska, Karmen (Harold “Hermie”) Oldenburg of Onalaska, Crystal Davis of Russell, Kan., Heather (James) Boardman Jr. of Holmen and Katherine (David P.) Rudolph of Onalaska; six grandchildren, Lauren Torgerson, Alyssa Boardman, Jeremiah Boardman, Caleb Board-man, Noah Hougom and Natalie Rudolph; her mother, Dorothy Bubb of Oconto Falls, Wis.; one sister, Betsy Kroenig of Bonduel, Wis.; and one brother, Jerome G. Bubb Jr.
She was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Diane Bubb.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1201 Avon St., La Crosse. The Rev. John Parcher will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn North Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Delos E. Glick
LA FARGE/VIROQUA - Delos E. Glick, 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua where everyone there called him Grandpa.
Delos was born on March 7, 1906, near Sylvan Wis., in Richland County. He was the oldest of 10 children born to Emard and Lilly (Bailey) Glick. His father was killed with a hay fork while he was putting up hay on the farm when Delos was only 15 years old and in the eighth grade at Fish School near Sylvan. Since Delos was the oldest, he had to take over running the family farm. On May 12, 1928, he married Mildred Mayfield in Soldiers Grove. They lived in the Viola area until 1937 when they moved to a farm near La Farge.
Delos loved music and played the fiddle and harmonica and would sing and play at several dances and other occasions. He also loved to dance. Delos was a very meticulous farmer and everything had to be precise. When Delos retired from farming in 1965, he purchased the Shoe Shop in La Farge where he sold shoes, mended shoes, harnesses, canvas, etc. He loved hunting, fishing, playing ball and music. Delos was still driving a car when he was 95 years old, and shot his last deer when he was 95.
Delos was a very proud man and it was hard for him to give up his driver’s license. He enjoyed having his coffee time at the Zzip Stop. He lived a long and enjoyable life. He was a member of La Farge United Methodist Church and was a very devout Christian. And at one time he was a member of the La Farge Rod and Gun Club. Delos was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include four sons, Eldon (LaVeta) Glick of Pardeeville, Wis.; Roger (Betty) Glick of Bailey, Colo.; Richard (Gloria) Glick of La Farge, and Gary (Marj) Glick of Genoa; a daughter, Helen (Kenny) Hendrickson of Cottage Grove, Wis.; no surviving brothers or sisters; many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Mayfield) Glick, on May 6, 1984; daughters, Virginia (Miles) Newman, LolaBelle (Ernie) Hardwick and Rosetta (Milo) Hoeth; grandchildren, Kathy (Newman) McCallson, Thomas Delos Newman and Edmund Miles Newman; brothers, Alpha (Gladys) Glick, Sheldon (Iva) Glick, Gerald (Marie) Glick, Merald (Emma) Glick, Archie (Lenna) Glick and Olen (Marge) Glick; and sisters, Doretta (Marion) Cupp, Elsie (Ray) Lewis, Barbara (Jut) Williams and Juanita (Garold) Keys.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at La Farge United Methodist Church. The Rev. Karen L. Bankes will officiate with burial in Bear Creek Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Seland-Huston Funeral Home in La Farge. Friends may also call Thursday at the church from noon until time of services.

John Edward Olson Jr.
SOLDIERS GROVE, Wis./BILLINGS, Mont. - John Edward Olson Jr., 69, of Billings died April 11, 2004.
Known as “Jack” to family and friends, he was born in Soldiers Grove on Nov. 9, 1935, to John and Ica Olson.
He spent his early life working locally as a farm hand. In 1972, he moved to Billings, where he fulfilled his desire to become a ranch hand.
His family lost touch with him in recent years. In an effort to contact him it was discovered that he had passed away due to a fall. Stenberg Funeral Home in Billings handled the burial service and memorial. Jack was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery in Billings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Byron, Myron, Buford, Lester and Carl; and three sisters, Margie, Berdetta “Betty” and Mayine “Junie.”
He is survived by his brothers, Lawrence “Larry” of Mukwonago, Wis., and Doral “Darrell” of Onalaska.

PIGEON FALLS, Wis. - Doris Ann Johnson, 63, of Pigeon Falls died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, following a long illness.
She was born March 5, 1945, in Galesville to Norval and Jennie Anderson. She was united in marriage to Dennis G. Johnson on Oct. 1, 1966. Doris was a graduate of Luther School of Nursing in Eau Claire, Wis., with a career expanding from 1966 until retiring this past December from the Trempealeau County Health Care System in Pigeon Falls. She was active in her church for 40-plus years. Doris enjoyed her grandchildren, family and friends, gardening, music, 4-H, cooking, traveling and shopping.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis; daughter, Dawn (Jeff) Woodburn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son, Dustin (Johanna) of Madison; grandchildren, Kristin and Jacob Woodburn; father-in-law, Kenneth; sister, Vivian Fritz of St. Claire Shores, Mich.; brothers, Byron (Lorna) Anderson of Ettrick and Gordon (Mary Ann) Anderson of Little Chute, Wis.; special cousin, Jim (Mary) Anderson of Menomonie, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law, Genevive Johnson; and brother-in-law, Bill Fritz.
