MADISON (AP) — Wisconsin police and sheriff's departments are trying to cut back on gas consumption like everyone else as prices remain high.

Dane County Sheriff's deputies have been told not to leave cars idling during traffic stops.
State troopers are being told to slow down and work in teams instead of driving alone. They're also trying to be more visible so other drivers will slow down on state highways.

Brookfield police have a 10-point plan to save gas and money. It includes capping the number of miles officers drive and encouraging them to spend more time patrolling on foot. The city hopes such measures will save $20,000 or more by the end of the fiscal year.
