His assertion that George Washington was a “warm deist at best, more likely an agnostic,” is just plain wrong. All one has to do is read the writings and prayers of Washington to clearly see his devout faith in God. The real reason I believe we’re having difficulty in our nation is not too much religion but the fact that we have turned our back on God, who has abundantly blessed us.
We recently witnessed the passing of two very public figures, Tim Russert and Tony Snow — both excelled at their professions. More importantly, they were great family men and strong and vocal about their faith in God. We need more like them.
Morality and God are deeply intertwined. Man does not produce it in and of himself. Atheism is a lonely dead-end street.
John Adams said it best in 1776, “It is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand.”
