William J. Hirschuber
STODDARD, Wis. — William “Bick” J. Hirschuber Jr. died Friday, July 11, 2008, in La Crosse. He was born in Stoddard on Jan. 13, 1932, to William J. and Daisy (Hart) Hirschuber. He married Margie Joseph in La Crosse on March 22, 1952.
Bick had been employed by the A.J. Sweet Co. of La Crosse for many years and was a member of the Loyal Order of Eagles as well as the Stoddard-Bergen Fire Department.
In addition to his wife, Margie, Bick is survived by his two daughters, Tami (Randy) Hastings of La Crosse and Tanya (Bob) Juen of Stoddard; two sons, Terry (Kelley) Hirschuber of Onalaska, Wis., and Rick (Lorna) Hirschuber of Holmen, Wis.; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three sisters, Elsie (Jerry), Bev (Jim) and Carol; and four brothers, Danny (Sandy), Jim (Charlene), Ray (Cheryl) and Les (Marian).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The Rev. Lawrence B. Berger will officiate. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family.

Gary L. Hoyum
VIROQUA, Wis. — Gary L. Hoyum, age 62, of Viroqua died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in La Crosse. He was born July 13, 1945, in Viroqua to Harold and Jean (Vance) Hoyum. On May 27, 1972, he was united in marriage to Sharon Egge. Gary farmed and was employed by the Westby Creamery/Dean Foods until 1992. He then continued to farm until his heath failed. He was a member of the Viroqua Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, Sharon, Gary is survived by two children, Lisa (Dave) Kowalczyk and Chad (Kari) Hoyum, both of Viroqua; four grandsons, Casey and Ryan Kowalczyk and Jackson and Alex Hoyum; one sister, Joyce (Alan) Solverson of Viroqua; two brothers, Terry Hoyum and Robert (Barbara) Hoyum, both of Viroqua; his stepmother, Margaret Campbell; three uncles, Fred (Carole) Hoyum, Carl Oliver and LaVerne Oliver; three aunts, Iva Hoyum, Lillian Hoyum and Janette Vance; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant sister, Cheryl Hoyum; sister-in-law, Lori Hoyum; aunts and uncles, Edwin Hoyum, Norman Hoyum, Gertrude Oliver, Mabel Oliver, Helen and Arnold Emerson and Evelyn and Noel Nelson, Vernon Vance, Kenneth (Mearl) Vance and Virgil Vance.
Funeral services will be held on at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Viroqua Church of Christ. Nathan Prong, minister, will officiate, with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St., Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church after 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Jerome Kamla
MESA, Ariz. — The Rev. Jerome Kamla was born Aug. 4, 1914, in Arcadia, Wis. He was born to John and Mary (Kowahl) Kamla. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 14, 1942, at St. Joseph the Workman’s Cathedral in La Crosse by Bishop William Griffin. During his 41 years of service to the Diocese of La Crosse, Fr. Kamla brought Christ to the rural parishes of the diocese, a ministry that he truly loved. In 1983, Fr. Kamla retired from active parish ministry but did not slow down in his efforts to bring Christ to the world. Fr. Kamla came to Mesa and first served at Holy Cross parish. Fr. Kamla has served at All Saints parish since 1993. During that time, he was “pastor” to the Las Sendas overflow Masses and faithfully served wherever he could. Fr. Kamla’s last Mass at All Saints was Saturday, May 17, 2008. Fr. Kamla died peacefully early in the morning of June 26, 2008. Fr. Kamla had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. He will be remembered for his strong preaching, his joy at celebrating Mass each week, his commitment and support of our altar servers and his “joke” at the end of every Mass. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord!
He is survived by one sister, Dorothy Sieger and one sister-in-law, Cornelia Kamla, both of La Crosse; four nieces and 11 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Monica St. Jacque; one brother, Joachim Kamla; and two brothers-in-law, Leo St. Jacque and Le Roy Sieger.
A funeral Mass was held at All Saints Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, with burial in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, both in Mesa. The Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family with arrangements.
Grace Louise Muehr
Grace L. Muehr, 79, of La Crosse passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2008, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. She was born in La Crosse on Aug. 23, 1928, to Bernard and Edna (Stringer) Muehr.
Grace attended Holy Trinity Grade School and graduated from Aquinas High School, both in La Crosse, in 1946. Grace and her sister, Mary Muehr, helped run the family business, Muehr’s Grocery, for over 50 years.
Grace is survived by her sister, Mary Muehr; many cousins, friends and special neighbors.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Peter A. Muehr.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 S. 13th St., La Crosse. The Rev. Lawrence Berger will officiate with interment at Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Blaschke & Schneider Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Clarence L. Schlicht
ONALASKA, Wis. — Clarence L. Schlicht, 76, of Onalaska and formerly of La Crosse, died at his home Friday, July 11, 2008.
Clarence was born Nov. 17, 1931, to Carl and Linda (Hohlfeld) Schlicht. He was a 1949 graduate of Central High School, La Crosse. Clarence served in the Korean War from 1952 until 1954. He returned to attend La Crosse State, where he was active in many fraternal organizations. He earned a bachelor of science in English and a masters of science in history, graduating with honors. While attending La Crosse State, Clarence met Patricia Meyer, whom he married Aug. 29, 1959, in a ceremony at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Clarence started his 31-year career as a teacher at Central High School in 1958. Here, he went on to chair the history department. He retired in 1989.
Clarence and Patricia lovingly raised their two children, Michael and Rebecca, who will dearly miss and fondly remember their father. In his retirement, Clarence pursued his love of old cars and antiques, having sold his last collector’s car just days before his passing. He also loved his weekly breakfast gathering of fellow “49ers” — Central High 1949 graduates.
Clarence is survived by Patricia, his wife of 49 years; his son, Mike (Sharon) and grandson, Zachary, all of Portland, Ore.; his daughter, Rebecca (Steve) Hoglund and grandchildren, Alexis and Adam, all of Minneapolis, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, at Asbury United Methodist Church, La Crosse. The Rev. Scott McMurray will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call on the family at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday.
Marjorie J. Winscher
SPARTA, Wis. — Marjorie “Jo” J. Winscher, 69, of Sparta died Friday, July 11, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, Sparta. She was born June 12, 1939, in Sparta to Herman and Alice (Carr) Schanhofer. She grew up in Coles Valley, Monroe County, Wis., and graduated from Sparta High School. She then attended La Crosse School of Beauty.
Jo worked at Corrine’s Beauty Court in Sparta and then worked in the kitchen at Morrow Memorial Home until her retirement. She married Ray Winscher on June 30, 1962, in Sparta. Ray passed away in 1994.
Jo is survived by her children, Mary (James Siber) Doherty of Tomah, Wis., John (Chris) Winscher of Mindoro, Wis., and Timothy Winscher of Mindoro; her grandchildren, Hollie, Sara and Joshua Winscher; her stepgrandchildren, Joshua and Isiah Kramer; her great-grandchildren, Tristan, Isabella, Aaron, Dawson, Jaden and Marjorie; her sisters, Sally Surrerier of Sparta, Marilyn (Bob) Bruns of Tomah, Jeanette (Roger Hutson) Andringa of Sparta and Anita (Sherwin) Giraud of Sparta; and her brother, Mike (Bonnie) Schanhofer of Luxemburg, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Alice; her husband, Ray; and her brothers, Paul Robert, Ted, James Patrick, Donald and John.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, with Father James Leary OFM Cap officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Sparta.
